Going on vacation, whether for a short or long time, doesn’t mean you have to give up working out. There are many ways to squeeze exercise into your trip, so don’t be discouraged. The Tandem Ramble even wrote packing tips for ladies who like riding a bike, as it’s an increasingly popular means to roam around and get exercise at the same time. Simply put, smart planning for any trip is key. Here are our tips on how to stay in shape while traveling:
In addition to cycling, here are some other tips you can do to exercise while on holiday.
1. Plan for a hike
A lot of destinations feature beginner-friendly hikes that you can try out. Not only will this spice up your vacation, as it will also reward you with amazing views. Hiking is a powerful cardio exercise that you can incorporate in your vacation, and being at one with nature will allow you to feel relaxed, a far cry from the hustle and bustle of city life.
2. Go on photo walks
Use photo ops to your advantage by burning some calories along the way. Foxy Bingo suggests scouting nearby areas by foot which have a unique charm to them, and start snapping away. This could be anything from a local night market, a park, or something that is frequented by the local community. This mini project is a good way to document your trip, get moving, and have a great time while you’re at it!
3. Use hotel facilities
Some hotels have gyms that guests can use. Maximize the gym to your benefit by trying to exercise every morning before starting the rest of your plans for the day. In case you’re staying in a place that doesn’t have a fitness center, improvise by taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
4. Don’t rely on equipment
Try and do exercises that are not dependent on equipment, such as body weight routines, yoga, and aerobics or, if possible, different ways of exploring nature like kayaking or canoeing.
5. Plan out your workout
It’s not really necessary to block off one hour every day just so you can insert physical activity into your routine. Here on Travel Girls, we recommend breaking your workout into smaller routines to make them more manageable. 15-minute workouts are still highly effective if done right!
6. Drink lots of water
Staying hydrated is still the best way to keep in tip-top condition. If you lose too much water, you’ll get tired easily and be less motivated to workout. Since traveling it quite demanding on the body, it’s recommended to increase your water intake. Carrying a reusable tumbler and refilling it every time you go to a diner or spot a water fountain is a good way to always stay hydrated on the go.
Staying active on your vacation doesn’t have to be a chore. If you plan it out well and combine activities that marry up with your sightseeing plans, you’ll feel even more accomplished and refreshed. Give these tips a try and see how they impact your next trip.
