The Hacienda Santa Ana is located in the Cotopaxi Valley between the mountains of Pasochoa, Rumiñahui, and Sincholagua. The property used to belong to the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), a religious community that was established there in the 1600s.
Around 1640, the Jesuits arrived in the Cotopaxi valley, at the foot of the Volcano. The eruptions that occurred a few years ago caused the valley to be filled with volcanic stones, giving it the name of Pedregal (rock valley).
The Jesuit community lived for a long time on the land of more than 60,000 hectares. During their stay, they built a church and a stone house that they used for their prayers.
The Jesuits were the first to have cattle in the region.
The hotel has the same name as the town and land, “Santa Ana del pedregal”. The hotel is considered by some priests as a Shrine because it was always a place of peace and prayer.
After the King of Spain Carlos III expelled the Jesuits from the country, the property passed to the leaders of the Independence, which was subsequently handed over to well-positioned families in the Amazonas.
Their restaurant offers different menus that include soup or other entrees, main courses and desserts. Many different drinks such as natural juice, alcoholic beverages, and coffee or tea.
