Kitesurfing in the Dominican Republic was a lot of fun. Cabarete is a town located on the Nothern shore of the island and well known for its water sports. If you want to give kitesurfing a try you should have at least 10 lessons with an instructor before you can be planning to do it on your own.
The conditions in Cabarete are simply perfect for kitesurfing and many 1000ths of tourists come every year to enjoy their favorite watersport.
In the first lessons, we got the chance to learn the basics. The instructors explained to us everything about how to deal with the wind, how to hold the correct positions and we were thought the safety instructions. Later on, we learned to fly the training kite and then the normal kite. It really is difficult at the beginning but once you have a feeling and know how to work with the wind it won’t be a problem at all.
We then continued to control the kite in the water while were basically pulled through the ocean. This gives you the first feeling of how it will be like on the board.
We highly recommend everyone to go out and try kitesurfing. It really is super exciting. Learning new movements is very healthy for your body and mind. It also gives you a great feeling of achievement. We hope to have the chance soon again as we are eager to improve our skills.
