HOTEL BOUTIQUE PORTAL DE CANTUÑA

“Easy, uncomplicated and relaxed”.If those are the three search terms you typed in Google for your stay in Quito El Hotel Boutique Portal de Cantuña should be your first result.

Hidden in a little alleyway, directly in the heart of the Old Town of Quito, you may not expect such a nice, comfortable and traditional colonial hotel. The cafe downstairs offers a breakfast buffet that surely covers all your needs. The same cafe reopens its doors for dinner. Try one of their homemade pizzas straight out of the oven while listening to traditional local music.

Entering the house through the staircases, you will most likely be directly welcomed by the manager himself or one of his family members. The Sanchez family opened this colonial-style hotel many generations ago. The neat baroque style decoration and pillars make it seem like a step back into the colonial time. 120 years ago, The Sanchez family bought this former Abbey from the Protectoras nun of Obrero, which explains its location at the end of an alley off the busy streets of Quito.

Great location

The rooms are clean and very well-fitting in the rest of the thoughtful and traditional design. Interestingly, the décor is based on recycling/reuse ideas using old objects. Additionally, a stained glass window covers the ceiling of the interior patio is made of recycled bottles and shows typical birds of Ecuador. Apart from just visiting this beautiful building, you want to see some of Quito’s highlights. Good that Hotel Portal de Cantuña is only a few steps from the Plaza San Francisco, close to the Plaza de la Independencia, the Carondelet Palace, the Church of La Compania and more more more.

So if you want to not only visit the city during the day but have a fitting art inspired stay while enjoying Quito, Hotel Portal de Cantuña will definitely not leave you disappointed.
