We are Marta and Ben, a Polish-German couple. We’ve met in May 2014, both with their own plans, following two different paths. Even though it seemed impossible, we decided to be together; against many odds. Since then we have been traveling together, shared big and small dreams, lived great moments and faced troubles together. We laugh loud and argue loud, we cry, smile, party and have fun together each day.
We live in a constant need to visit new places. We share the urge to discover, learn and understand new cultures, traditions and customs. We crave to see all world’s wonders. We want to meet beautiful people and get to know their stories. We would like to listen to local music, taste delicious food, swim in different seas and sleep under different skies. We wish to speak various languages but sometimes just stay speechless. We want a life full of adventures.
Our dream and plan is to travel across the Atlantic on a sailboat to South America and cycle from Patagonia to Alaska by tandem, hopefully visiting all the countries in South, Central and North America en route. This means that we are going to cover a distance of more than 45 000 km in three years time.
We’ve created this profile to write about our adventures, share the experience and travelling tips, publish videos and photos. We want it to be not only a way to keep our families and friends updated, but also a reliable and solid source of information for a wider audience, especially other travellers, bloggers and globetrotters. We hope that you will find our site useful and entertaining. Enjoy!
I was born in 1990 in Poland and grew up in Wągrowiec, a cosy little town in the western part of the country. That is where I’ve met the most wonderful people and built the most valuable, lifelong friendships.
Back then I was totally devoted and focused on my biggest passion- theater. I divided my time between studies and rehearsals. Only during summer holidays I would pack my backpack and hit the road with the best company – my family and friends. With them I’ve visited most of the European countries.
I finished my education as M. A. of Arabic language and Islamic Studies. During my studies I participated in students project School for School in Sudan where I had the chance to work in primary schools in 2012 and 2013. This trip was my first culture clash, a sort of an awakening or an impulse which pushes me to discover and explore more.
For one year I lived and studied in Jordan. Afterwards I moved to Lebanon where I’ve completed my internship in the Polish embassy. It gave me an opportunity to travel the Middle East. I totally soaked into the Arab culture, art, music and cuisine. I am grateful for every crazy day I’ve spent there, every journey I undertook and every conversation I had, because they all were precious lessons.
Together with Ben I moved to Spain in order to save up money for our tandem trip and learn and practice the Spanish language. Ever since we have met we travel together. but nothing compares to our last trips through Western Africa and a 8000 km tandem tour through the northern part of Europe. There were the most exhausting and at the same time most amazing adventures I have ever experienced.
Apart from traveling I love cooking, reading and photography. You can check some of my works and visit my portfolio. Not so long ago I started running and exercising nearly daily. Even though my distances are not marathons (not yet, I promise!) I am really proud of each kilometer. My biggest dream is to write and publish a book.
I was born in 1987 in Landau in der Pfalz/Germany, a lovely town surrounded by vineyards and forest, located in the south west of the country.I used to be a member of the youth scouts with whom I undertook my very first journeys and adventures.
My biggest passion from my early childhood till now is sports.I started playing basketball in the age of 8. Later on in the age of 16 I started running middle distances (800m and 1500).However the distances in which I competed were getting longer and longer and I finally ended up doing marathon (2h45) and Ironman triathlon in a respective time of under 10 hours.I love extreme sports.I did skydiving,I competed in a 12 hour swim contest which I completed with 30 Km,did stunt flying, climbing and much more…..
I finished my education as plumber in 2011 and decided to travel through the Alps in Germany,Austria and Switzerland to do something a bit different and keep myself in shape.I am still not sure how it happened but I think the travel bug got into me and I started hitchhiking towards Istanbul. The fact that I have never done anything similar to that brought me to the awareness that there would be a dramatic change following soon.
After hitchhiking to almost all European countries I decided to spend the winter in Morocco.I got stuck in Morocco for 1,5 years and experienced the most intense adventures and culture shock in my life! I love Morocco from the bottom of my heart and I am very thankful for each day I spent in this wonderful country !
Later on after traveling again a bit through Europe and northern Africa I moved on to the middle east and Caucasus. After hitchhiking in the wintertime through Russia I traveled to Poland and started traveling with Marta for a coupe of months.
Afterwards we move to Spain for 4 months together in order to take a deep breath after being on the Road non-stop for 4 years, making a bit of money and planning upcoming adventures. At the end of 2015 we eventually hitchhiked from Belarus to Guinea-Bissau. Before heading to the americas we successfully complete a 8000 km tandem journey through the north of Europe, which was totally amazing!
One of the most important people in my life,my brother, told me once:
If you have a standard life every day is sort of OK or sort of bad.The peaks are as high as you measure it in scale. But if you live a bit more crazy you get higher great times and lower bad times. It is just a matter of your own choice. Gotta think about it and then decide!
